The post you’ve all been waiting for!

Just kidding.

But if you know me well, you’ll know it’s the post I’ve been very excited to write for awhile.

ODESZA.

I love them.

You guys know I love them.

I first discovered ODESZA (or Odesza) when I was a sophomore in college.

My friend showed me “Say My Name,” which had just come out.

I was jammin’ in my seat in the lib – definitely not studying – and I was hooked.

I’ve seen them live 4 times, and it’s very hard for me to describe to y’all what the experience is like.

The very first time I saw an entire show was December 2015. They were on tour with Big Wild.

My friend and I drove up to LA for the night to see them at the USC Shrine Auditorium.

It was the best time I’ve ever had a show. It was so incredible.

The combination of the lights, the live instruments they both play whilst mixing, the songs themselves, and the energy of the crowd makes every ODESZA show insanely good.

You can tell these guys LOVE what they’re doing. And they’re good as hell at it.

The Duo Behind ODESZA

Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight met at Western Washington University, and formed a duo in 2012.

Individually, Knight was known as Beaches Beaches, and Mills is known as Catacombkid.

So, where did they get the name Odesza?

Odesza is a misspelling of the Hungarian city Odessa, Ukraine.

Mills’ uncle had a ship named “Odessa”, but this name was already taken by another band.

They decided to misspell the word to create their name.

Thus, Odesza.

What I love about this duo is that they can play only their music and still put on an amazing show.

Not many artists can do this.

The production, the sounds, and the passion all makes for a spectacular show.

And –

It doesn’t get old.

The Music

In 2013, they released their first LP, Summer’s Gone.

Some of their most iconic music is off of this LP.

Namely, “How Did I Get Here” and “IPlayYouListen.”

If you haven’t heard these songs, you’ve been living under a rock.

These are two of my favorites they have produced.

“How Did I Get Here” reminds me of roadtrips to Coachella and summer.

I love those songs that you associate with lovely memories.

You know the ones.

They hit 1 million plays on Soundcloud just before they released their EP, My Friends Never Die.

In the fall of 2013, ODESZA opened for Pretty Lights on his tour.

Less than year later, their own headlining tour began, and sold out 28 shows.

Not to mention, the countless festivals they would play that same year and beyond.

The In Return tour was the one I attended.

This tour was linked to their next studio album, In Return.

Which is pretty iconic if you ask me.

Every song on it is great –

“White Lies” and “All We Need” are two of my favorite songs of all time.

You can listen to it below.

What’s Next?

After launching their own label, Foreign Family Collective, Odesza has helped new artists gain more exposure by releasing over 30 singles so far.

Some of these artists include Jai Wolf, RUFUS DU SOL, Big Wild, and Hayden James.

I made a playlist for all of the artists on the label. You can listen (and follow!) below.

They recently released four new songs –

“Meridian,” “Line of Sight,” “Late Night” and “Corners of the Earth.”

Edit: their album just came out, and it is literal art, you guys.

The production value, the transitions, just everything. It is so good.

The album tells a story, which I love. Listen in order, from the beginning, and you’ll be taken on a journey.
