Let’s talk COLLAGEN.

As I sit here writing this, I’m drinking my morning coffee with collagen in it.

It’s become a routine, after hearing so many amazing things about Vital Proteins (the collagen brand I use). More on that later.

I kept seeing basically every health blogger I follow taking collagen, so I had to try it.

So, what is it?

Benefits of Collagen

COLLAGEN is a protein found in our bodies. In fact, it’s the most prominent protein found in our muscles, skin, bones, etc.

According to Dr. Axe (1), it’s basically the glue that holds our joints and tendons together.

It’s what helps give our skin both elasticity and strength – and has amazing benefits for your joint health, too.

Essentially, it’s really good for your health overall.

Especially if you’re having any sort of joint pain or skin issues.

Collagen also helps fill in your fine lines (goodbye, wrinkles!).

Why do I take it every day?

I want to prep my skin to be the best it can be –

Especially when things like pollution, sun exposure and any high-sugar foods are taking a toll on my skin all of the time.

And anything I can do to help my muscles recover and help my joints stay strong is good in my book.

An added bonus:

Collagen improves your hair and nails, too!

Once you take it every day for a couple of months, you’ll totally notice a difference in your hair, skin and nails.

It strengthens these parts of your body so you stay looking beautiful for longer 🙂

There are so many benefits to taking collagen, but one of the other big ones is it helps digestion.

While this hasn’t been proven for sure yet, some studies show that collagen improves symptoms of leaky gut/inflammatory bowel disease by helping build the tissue in the digestive tract (2).

Collagen Coffee Recipe

benefits of collagen

The coffee I make every morning includes collagen.

I use Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (unflavored) –

I love them because they are grass-fed, pasture-raised, and they mix SUPER well into coffee.

Like, you pour it and then it completely disappears into the night.

LOL but really. I’ve tried collagen that is goopy and gross in hot liquid – yuck.

There are other flavors, but honestly I’ve only tried the unflavored. The other varieties are on my list!

I’ve heard the Vanilla (yellow tub) is super yummy as well as the Beauty Water versions.

You can even make collagen desserts –

These are all things I want to do in the very near future, so let me know if you’d like to see that!

You don’t have to get Vital Proteins; they have other types of collagen for sale on Amazon.

This is just the brand I’ve loved after trying other brands!

Since you need two scoops of Vital Proteins for a full serving, I’ll usually split up the scoops between my green smoothie and my coffee.

It’s tasteless though, so you’ll still be able to enjoy that sweet, sweet taste of your coffee (may be slightly obsessed).

I really hope you guys add some collagen in your lives!

I think it’ll really make an impact on the health of your skin, nails, hair, and maybe even your digestion.
